Garage Sale Advertising - how to promote your sale for success
|
|
You can never get enough
advertising, hence you should advertise your Garage Sale as much
as possible, using all possible mediums. This includes online
advertising (using online sites such as egaragesales.com.au),
your local papers, garage sale signs and community notice / bulletin
boards. The more people that know about your sale the better chance
you have at selling your items.

ONLINE
Online advertising is a great way of reaching a wider audience.
In fact, internet will soon to become the standard for Garage
Sale advertising - its only a matter of time.
Pros (egaragesales.com.au):
Reach a massive audience, advertise your Garage Sale for as long
as you like prior to the start time, no llimit you to how large
and detailed your AD can be, get buyer feedback.

| NEWSPAPERS |

|
Newspapers offer an effective and popular
medium for advertising.
Cons: Cost money, somewhat restrictive in AD longevity
(usually only listed one day) and sale description (between
40-50 words)
Pros: Wide circulations, good exposure.
|
|
However, the positives certainly outweigh the negatives
and placing an AD with a newspaper is smart business.
Your advertisenment should be short and to the point. Give
the address and hours of the sale. If you will be selling
any unusual items of interest or anything you think would
especially attract people, you should mention it in the
ad. If you are still unsure of what to say in your ad, read
some other ads and copy bits and pieces from them. Ask your
neighbours if they want to split the cost of a newspaper
ad and hold a multi-family Garage Sale. The day of your
sale, it's nice if you happen to know what other sales are
going on in your area so you can direct customers to them.

|
| SIGNS |
 |
Put up garage sale signs in your neighbourhood
the evening before the sale (or very early in the morning
the day of the sale) directing customers to your Garage
Sale. |
 |
Drawing arrows on the signs helps
(our sign making tool automatically
does this for you!). Use sturdy cardboard and make
sure the sign is legible. I saw one Garage Sale where
their signs were cut in shape of arrows - it was very
easy to find it considering there were many turns
involved.
|
 |
After the garage sale signs are
up, drive past them and see if you can read them easily,
because if you can't, nobody else can either.
|
 |
And most importantly, after your
sale is over, TAKE YOUR GARAGE SALE SIGNS DOWN.

| Laws: Check with your local government
or homeowner's association to see if there are restrictions
on Garage Sale signs. For example, some neighborhoods only
allow freestanding Garage Sale signs. Those attached to street
signs may get torn down by the local authorities or incur
a fine. |
